Artists and other creative professionals can stay and work temporarily in Seyna Art Gallery premises by participating in artist-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities.
SEPTEMBER 2021 | OPEN CALL

INTRODUCTION
It is coming close to two years since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. The disease has hopelessly devastated life and communities the world over. More than ever, the creative industry shares the responsibility to keep hope alive and to act as a vehicle for resilience. Through our Artist residence program, Seyna Art Gallery (SAG) aims to enhance that shared creative responsibility; to keeping hope alive through Art or Design. The small but significant part we play, is to empower artists by supporting their creative endeavor, and to give them a platform to demonstrate this; be it through Fashion Design, Visual Art, Community empowerment art, Photography, Affirmative art, etc.
DURATION
The program will start on Monday 6th September 2021 to Friday 1st October 2021.
The Artists will put up a duo exhibition in the Seyna Art Gallery which will start on Friday 8th October 2021 and run for four weeks.
FUNDING
The artist residence program is supported by Art For Change Foundation – www.artforchange.no
The Foundation supports vocational education within design, technology and entrepreneurship, plus creative initiatives that use art for change. The foundation also utilizes the power of art to promote consciousness, dialogue and to inspire.
Seyna Art Gallery is fully supported by Art For Change Foundation. This year’s artist residence program aims to admit two (2) artist who will be selected after an application process. The artists can either be Ugandan or international citizens, residing in Uganda or abroad.
The two Artists will each be supported with:
- Free Accommodation in the Seyna Art Centre for the duration of the residence
- Three meals a day, I.e. Breakfast Lunch and Supper prepared on site
- A small fee to supplement costs for Art material (The artist can add on in case they need more materials than the fee can cover)
- A moderate per diem to cover expenses, local travel within the central business district, and local communications.
- Free unfurnished Studio space
- Free exhibition space for a duration of 4 weeks
NOTE: Depending on the program presented by the artist, Seyna Art Gallery will discuss what to get in return.
ELIGIBILITY
The program is open to artists and students both locals and international, practicing in all areas of Art and Design. However, those who will specifically work in Painting, Sculpture, Fashion Design, Photography, Ceramics, Jewelry Design, Community Art and Affirmative Art are encouraged to apply.
Continuing and former students of Nagenda International Academy of Art and Design are also encouraged to apply.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS, INSURANCES, PREPARATION
It is the responsibility of the artist to make their own travel arrangements and secure their own travel, medical and other appropriate insurances. The artist is responsible for any costs arising in preparation before commencing the residency.
APPLICATION PROCESS
All legible applicants will complete the application form.
All applications will go through a selection process carried out by representatives from Seyna Art Gallery and Art for Change Foundation.
All applicants will be contacted via email or telephone to inform them about the status of their application on Tuesday 31st August 2021.
Successful applicants will receive further instructions.
